The Cruelty is the Point
I said that recently and someone told me to “get some new material.” I was like motherfucker, I’ll quit saying it when it stops being true!

This story and its ilk is awful, but saying “the cruelty is the point” is reductive and unhelpful. If you really think the majority of Texas favors cruelty for its own sake, then you should turn off your gadgets and disappear. Go away and fuck off.
Not the majority, but definitely the controlling faction of its state government.
I mean, to get hyper technical, they have associated this general type of cruelty with moral righteousness and fiscal responsibility.
So they are doing things that are cruel. Those of us not caught up in their cult can see that they’re doing it because of greed, tribalism, and religious indoctrination. The cruelty is the point, but they’re not doing it just because they like being cruel. They’re doing it because being cruel is virtuous, makes them feel superior, and makes them money (note, not all of these apply to everyone; these are 3 different motivations for 3 different groups). This type of cruelty, for one or more of those reasons, is seen as a GOOD thing.
So yes. The cruelty is the point. It’s not incidental, it’s not an unfortunate byproduct of some other goal. It is cruel and they are intentionally trying to be cruel.

His wife had a stroke years ago and her physical abilities and mind had started to go before that. She’s needed to be on Medicare/Medicaid for a long time now. I hope she doesn’t lose access.

This is not news, Texas is a failed state, nobody is running a headline “innocents killed by warlords in Somalia”.
One thing “Texans” seem to never understand: It’s not your state, they let you live there because they needed you to run their ranches and pump their oil, but the state belongs to the rural rich and always will.
Texas has been Republican controlled for 28 years. If they were capable of doing better, or differently, they would (might).

Sub cannot refer to subreddit outside the context of reddit. You say it can only be used exclusively for one thing only and disregard its general definition as a prefix. That’s like claiming sub cannot refer to a submarine in a marine context because “it’s already short for subreddit”

Yes, the news community shares news from all over the world, which includes the US.
If Texas were a country, it would be the 10th biggest by GDP and the 4th largest petrostate. It’s twice as large as Germany. This isn’t hyper-local news.
You want to share news from another country, post it. No one is stopping you.
