This is a pretty bizarre game. Played it on PC.
You pretty much have to be a fan of the more sophomoric aspects of Justin Roiland style humor. Even though he doesn’t do every voice, it is dripping with a constant (and I do mean constant) stream of “saying poop and cum and fuck a lot is really funny” humor.
The gameplay itself is…ok. The level design is actually pretty interesting, and there is even some cool variety in weapon designs and functions. This brings some interesting and varied ways to approach fights. But in my opinion the weapons lacked weight and everything just feels kind of floaty to control. It isn’t outright bad by any means but it doesn’t feel super solid. The foundational ideas are there, though. There is good there, it just needed a bit more time to polish the actual feel of playing.
With all that said, if you enjoy shooters and can manage to let yourself be entertained rather than annoyed by the humor, I think there’s enough here to make it worth a play.
Thanks for the detailed write up. Even though I’ve had my eye on this, I just realized that there is no way my wife would tolerate that humor. If I get this, it’s definitely something for headphones only for me.
Headphones are a good bet. I didn’t catch me enough to get me to finish it but I think I probably put 8-10 hours or so into it.
As absurd and eyeroll inducing as the game can be it certainly had me chuckling a few times
I really enjoyed this game, I love ad-lib comedy and have a bit of a weird sense of humor and this game really taps into it. Definitely not for everyone though.
Gameplay is really solid, the movement is fun and each gun has it’s own features and strengths, and it’s fun to blast through enemies switching out your guns DOOM-style.
It’s not worth it’s full price though, I would get it on sale. There’s also a Knifey expansion coming out soonish.
I’ve had my eye on this one for awhile, and a buddy of mine played it on PC and essentially said the same thing as you. It’s great but get it on sale.
What’s the frame rate on PS5?
I saw a video of a guy showing the settings and theres a check box for “console quality mode” they he left unchecked. So I’m going to assume it’s like Xbox, with 1440p 60fps default, and 4k30 quality mode.
