Just saw that this community is in the rotation for the lemmy.world community spotlight (that means there’s a link to a featured community on the lemmy.world landing page)! I think they now do a set of communities per week or two that get featured randomized, something like that.

Was a pretty good season for the community i think. But bike content is not a very popular topic in lemmy yet.

Kept on keeping track of user counts.

    Session is ON! 💥

Actually quite sketchy, not exactly made for a long wheelbase, very much for bmx. One tight double bump made me shit my pants for a bit.

Do someone know where to go bikepacking/touring in winter? Preferably in EU.

So I probably won’t have anything better to do in winter (job,…), I was thinking about doing some longer trip. Something like F it I will just take my bike and ride.

Do anyone have some recommendations where to go?

I guess you try to get somewhere sunny?

Off the top of my head, Sicily, Portugal and southern Spain with the option to go to Morocco, Canary islands, Cyprus. To have a bit longer days, probably Canaries make sense since it is so far south. Probably also has relatively cheap flights. Only time I have been to the Canaries I had shit weather, but I guess it should not be the case really.

This is a nice site to check for weather averages: https://weatherspark.com/

If you are interested in canaries at all, this is probably a good starting point for route ideas: https://granguanche.com/

It’s been on my radar, but I usually have all my holidays used up come winter, this year is no exception.

            I looked in to it and most probably I will take train to Spain, ride there for few weeks, take ferry to canaries then decide what to do next (-;

I don’t know yet. I will plan it for January.

I considere for now south Spain and Morocco. Then as the weather gets warmer return by bike home or ride somewhere else (depends on situation).

I don’t know jet how to get there, I would love to take train. If I want to just take bike and ride I would have to do it now (to get there before bad weather).

Oh man, sounds like you have quite some time on your hands, awesome. International train travel is a mess with a bike, probably makes sense to disassemble for that long of a trip then. Although you’d have time in advance to book something. There should be interesting “intercités de nuit” that would bring you from Paris to the border of Spain over night, I think both ends of Pyrenees, Basque country and catalunya. These trains should take full bikes. I hate the SNCF website though, so confusing and I never get to book a train that I’d like.

Yeah I know, I read cross border rail blog from Jon Worth.

My international trips with bike were in Slovakia, Austria and Czech Republic at least somewhere it isn’t a problem.

Problem is ticketing, trying to find best deals or at least connections because loads of the companies refuse to communicate between themselves.
