Werent Gauls famed for going to battle almost completely naked? Wouldnt want to ruin those pants with blood.
There are a few notable instances in which Gallic tribes did go to battle naked! But generally they wore trousers and a cloak to the battlefield, or, if part of the nobility, chainmail.
Good God. I cannot imagine the mindset of running at a wall of spears and shields with my bits swinging and thinking it was a solid idea.
