Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!
Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!
Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.
So how’s it going?
I peeped into the r/nz sub earlier, and man it’s so full of toxic angry people. It seems to be turning into a far-right talkback radio style cesspit. Mods don’t seem to give a crap at all. This place is smaller and slower, but at least it’s sane.
Anyway. Two months until I’m off to the states for a few weeks. Can’t wait to get a change of scene and have some warmer weather (hopefully - it’ll be heading into autumn there).
I miss NZCasual but I also tended to lurk on Reddit rather than participate so this place has been much, much better for me in terms of actual engagement. The main NZ sub had been getting more and more nasty since just before the first lockdown but I’d keep an eye on it for anything actually useful.
Where are you going in the US?
A small town in the midwest, I have family that moved over there :) We normally do a bit of roadtripping around the place too, seeing some of the national parks and stuff.
National parks in autumn sounds pretty awesome
I suspect it’s only going to get worse in there as we get closer to the election. I’m liking it on lemmy so far, however I can’t endlessly scroll here as interesting content seems to run out. Undecided if that’s a good or bad thing for me haha
Yeah. Seems there’s a lot of anger / doom-and-gloom types on a lot of the NZ based subreddits. As you said, I find it to be a nice change of pace here.

Exciting, where in the US are you going?
Small town in the midwest, to see family :) It’s a slow pace there, but that’s probably exactly what I need at the moment. It’s a nice wee town, and should be quite pretty in Autumn. Looking forward to it heaps.
Sounds like it should be a nice change. I’d think it shouldn’t be getting too cold at that stage. Probably still warmer than NZ. I was in Vancouver a few years back around that time of year and they were still getting 30 degree days.
I’m just here reading about how Elon Musk decided on a whim that Twitter will be rebranded to X.
I see a lot of posts about how the death ofTwitter was Musk’s goal all along but I think people are giving him far too much credit.
There is another post floating around about how at his other companies there are a whole team of people whose job it is to manage Musk himself so he doesn’t do stupid things for attention and honestly, that seems like a far more realistic scenario. He should take them with him wherever he goes because now we can all see what an unsupervised overpaid manchild is capable of.
Yeah if he wanted to destroy twitter, I expect he could have done a decent job for less than tens of billions this cost him.
Also surely he would know that destroying twitter would just lead to a competitor filling that market gap.
He’s getting very cringeworthy, he just wants to be found funny and cool. But he comes off like an old guy trying to fit in with the kids. I’m not sure how much input he had in it, but calling the Tesla’s Models S, 3, X, Y should tell you everything about his type of humour. I’m glad he doesn’t have as much input in running SpaceX.
I never even clicked to the Tesla names until now.
This will definitely end well.

Yeah it seems crazy. Twitter has got to be one of the worlds most recognisable brands. Even for people who never use it (like me) it’s hard to find a breaking news media article that isn’t quoting twitter.
Does this guy have a plan or is he just making it up as he goes along?

In Auckland, and some heavy fog rolled in this morning. Pretty late too. Rolled in after the sun was well and truly up.
Super foggy this morning in the tron. I kind of like it for my morning run. Makes me feel like I’m in Silent Hill
I think that’s often the case. Wet ground from overnight rain starts to evaporate in large volumes once the sun comes up.
Ahh that makes sense. Used to think it was a early early morning thing that disappears with the morning sun.
