There are some funny chemical elements around. Darmstadtium, Hafnium, Einsteinium and more.

But did you know we were close to getting J*rkoffium"?

The facility which discovered many elements like Darmstadtium, Hafnium and more resides near a town name “Wixhausen” which literally translates to “J*rkoff Village”. And for some obvious reason the scientists decided to name their newly discovered element NOT after the local town but after the big city next to it: Darmstadtium - which is only a slightly better choice because Darmstadt means “Bowel City” and Darmstadtium could be translated as “Bowelium”.

So this is why you can not have “J*rkoffium”.

(What clowns do name German settlements? Düsseldorf could be translated as “Idiots Village” and there are even worse names…)

    Why are you censoring “jerkoff”?

Düsseldorf could be translated as “Idiots Village”

It cannot. While “Dussel” is roughly “dumbass”, “Düssel” is an entirely different word (apparently an outdated term for the ‘roar’ of water). “u” and “ü” are different vowels in German.
