In my youth I had a 2nd Gen Eclipse and I loved it! It got me more than a few dates. I always wanted more from Mitsubishi and planned to buy whatever their fastest car was as I got older and had money. Sadly the company fell apart (in my opinion), but watching this reminded me of what I loved about their products back in the day!

That Lancer!! Wow.

The Mustang SUV is really weird for a number of reasons.

      1. They still sell the fastback and convertible mustang coupe muscle cars

      2. It’s actually a good car and could have stood on its own without the Mustang name

      3. It’s electric and not at all what a Mustang is

At least ford still make an actual mustang, though they’ve done the same thing with the bronco/bronco sport

The original Bronco was more like the one they sell now than what it eventually became. You used to be able to take the top and doors off.

My only gripes with the actual bronco itself are in its configuration options. The sport feels like a body kit for the eacape to me.

Isn’t that exactly what it is. Afaik the bronco is actually built on two separate platforms. One being the escape.

The Bronco is bad ass! The Sport is a tiny little fake SUV that doesn’t deserve the Bronco name. At least the Mustang SUV is actually a pretty awesome car.

Their cars were pretty unreliable unlike most other Japanese brands and they likely got destroyed in the US from the 08 recession since their cars were marketed toward younger crowds (Lancer) when those people were getting laid off left and right. Most new car buyers are in their 50s.

My wife had a 99 Eclipse GS and the motor blew up at 120k miles. Unsurprisingly, this was the 420A engine built in partnership with Chrysler who also has a reputation for unreliabiliy. They used a similar engine in the PT Cruiser and Neon which are rare sights to see on the roads these days.

You can’t find any Eclipse Turbos anywhere anymore, they all burned themselves up. They were fun little cars though! Handled great, and had wonderful acceleration.

You can’t even buy one in the States now. They just disappeared.

Edit: I mean Mitsubishi in general, not the SUV. I haven’t seen a Mitsubishi dealership since the 00’s.

I think it’s still a pretty strong brand in Asia. In the US not so much. I’ve read reviews about the Outlander being a good choice for a compact 3-row SUV, but one the main issues is that there are too few dealerships that it’s hard to get service and warranty claims.

I don’t think they even sell them here anymore.
