Hey folks -

It’s no secret that I created this community to replace the shittyfoodporn sized hole that was in my heart when I migrated from reddit to Lemmy. We’ll probably never be as big or active as they are, and that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with being a small community and I certainly don’t want to mod like 2 million people.

I’ve been popping my head into reddit every now and then to check on the drama and I noticed that /r/shittyfoodporn has un-privated itself.

So my question to this community: would you like to see some content from reddit reposted here (for example, some of the top posts on /r/shittyfoodporn) to increase the amount of content in /c/shittyfoodporn or would you rather that we take a slower and more organic approach to things and only showcase the food of our members here on Lemmy?

I’ll sticky this post for a while. Feel free to use the upvote/downvote as a makeshift polling option (upvote = yes reddit content, downvote = only Lemmy content) or just drop a comment in this thread.

Personally I would have no qualms with people scraping all of Reddit and rehoming the content. Anything to make Reddit irrelevant more quickly is always morally correct

I don’t see the harm in using some of the content that is also shown there, as long as this community does not become a copypaste from all the content in reddit.

There’s plenty of shitty food out there 👌

Hey I am a long time refugee of reddit/digg. I think I am too fresh on the lemmy scene but to me the actions of beehaw seem to be trying to protect their unique community rather than cloning reddit. 🤔 I have wondered about the likelihood of using a scrapper to grab high rated/filtered content from specific subreddits for the purposes of cross post onto sites like lemmy. Especially if you are running a sister subreddit like you are. On the otherside; spez and some reddit mods/users are not going to appreciate their content being lifted…the locking down of the API seems to be along these lines. It probably really depends on the type of post, also in recent times I saw an increasing amount of tiktok reposts on reddit. Definitely local tradional media news organizations used reddit as a source.

Sorry for the long post, just a build up of showerthoughts. SeeYa

I’m also in the ‘no harm, please do’ camp.

Quite simply, cross-posting from Reddit in the only way I’ll see content that starts out there, since I don’t trust intend to go back.
