Bezos is a coward, Trump has intimidated him into obedience.
Too much credit. He just puts his mouth where his money is.
I used to think Bezos was fucking sharp but holy shit, he spearheaded a surgical strike boycott on WP and Amazon Prime and WP still managed to print an article dissecting this entire debacle. “We were gonna endorse Harris and wish we could but thanks to Bezos we didn’t” basically, good job putting a lid on it.
Edit: and we all know if Trump can kick Bezos as hard as he can over their huge tiff a couple years back he’s gonna do just that and not take this into consideration at all
He’s also got to be pretty short sighted to back Trump. A trade war with china would be a huge setback to Amazon retail. My guess is that like Musk he’s too fixated on making sure he can continue union busting and putting employees in their place to pay attention to the big picture.
I think he might be fearing retribution but what a boneheaded way to go about, now everyone knows he’s the one who made the endorsement decision.
That said I can’t think of a businessman Trump would loathe more. During his administration Trump was always raging on Twitter about Bezos, Washington Post, Bezos using the USPS for Amazon, Bezos using China to push all sorts of goods.
Trump’s green with envy, Bezos knows where to move, when to stop throwing good money after bad, smart guy, thinks for himself, loyal to his business and himself, worth 100x more than Trump, and he’s short and goofy-looking but somehow has some appeal to top it all off (someone as vain as Trump, they’ll get upset just trying to wrap their head around that alone).
Bezos is of absolutely no use to Trump, better at everything that Trump, and also bends all of Trump’s weird notions regarding how a successful person should behave or even look like.
And then you got Musk on the other hand, acting like a puppy that’s simply excited that it didn’t piss on the floor.
So I think Trump will still aim for retribution. He’s the dumb bully and Bezos is the nerd that somehow pulls the girls (can’t think of better analogy)
