100 years ago. The KKK marched in Kalamazoo. Today we’re having a rally for the first woman, black president! This is what progress looks like.

[October 25th, 1924] A 1924 KKK gathering in Kalamazoo drew thousands. A parade marched through downtown before ending with a cross-burning near Woods Lake.

PR’s last chance to celebrate something about the campaign?

Meanwhile the reality in Kalamazoo is grim:

In Kalamazoo, the Black-white homeownership gap has been particularly pronounced. In 2018, it reached 30.5 percentage points, its highest level in 50 years. Black homeownership rates declined significantly following the 2008 housing market crisis and only began to recover in 2019.

I’m just acknowledging the difference from 100 years (and 1 day) ago.

I’m not claiming everything is sunshine and rainbows now and completely agree that there are still problems impacting minority groups at higher proportions along with racism in every crack of society. Here in Kalamazoo and the rest of the country. No PR, I have no ties to the democrat party. Just sharing history and information.
