Why are people still on Twitter/X? I don’t get it. The X on the building reminds me of a certain other letter on buildings in a certain country. People must be mad to still be carrying on as usual on there.

It comes down to the discomfort of change. Basic human psychology abhors change. This is why people continue to work in miserable jobs, etc.

But the irony is it’s the same people who keep sharing covid research papers and complaining about everyone else being stupid and acting like it’s still 2019. And they say it’s peer pressure making usually sensible people ignore covid, but why are they still on Twitter… oh because every else is… ha ha ha. I’m still wearing a mask, but some of the people still on Twitter are starting to act like it’s a freaking cult. One said I didn’t care about anyone’s health anymore if I wanted to leave Twitter. Insane!

Back when I was emotionally invested in software development, there was one fact that pervades everything and that’s that people hate change.

And yet they are mostly people with amazing fortitude, adapting well to health threats and not caring what anyone else thinks of them continuing to wear masks and not care about going to restaurants etc. So it’s mind boggling that they can’t see what’s happened to Twitter and are still on there just because “everyone else who cares about covid” supposedly is… according to them…

People indeed hate change, and they’re fundamentally lazy. The easiest, most status quo thing you can do is nothing.

Can someone explain this for me?

It bugs me, it really does. This rebranding is a great opportunity for Meta. Get some high profile influencers and celebs to announce exclusivity deals with Threads. I very much dislike Meta, but dislike X/Twitter even more. So Meta, have at them.

I think both Meta and X can just get in the bin!

It makes sense that they are rebranding to X given how many people have broken up with them in the past few years.

Why are people still on Twitter

Because some fairly major services (i.e local police, fire, municipality, closures, etc.) use it as the main source of providing information.

It’s more than mildly infuriating, since it’s a hit to accessibility, privacy, usability, and sanity.

If these places simply used their own, official website to pass on important news, I’d have absolutely zero need for a twitter account.
