The ultimate prepper power supply! Runs 2-7 MWe for three years.

Anybody have an idea of the cost? I can’t find anything.

It is either scam or rubbish I suppose.

I mean big tec companies with lots of funding are working an small reactors, yet no product available, yet. Also no one willing to bare or insure the risks.

That being said: stick to solar 😅

There’s some serious money investing in this one, though.

RICHLAND, Washington and ROCKVILLE, Maryland – July 19, 2023 – Energy Northwest, a premier provider of carbon-free electricity, and X-Energy Reactor Company, LLC (“X-energy”), a leading developer of advanced small modular nuclear reactors and fuel technology for clean energy generation, today announced the signing of a joint development agreement (“JDA”) for up to 12 Xe-100 advanced small modular reactors in central Washington capable of generating up to a total of 960 megawatts of carbon-free electricity. Energy Northwest expects to bring the first Xe-100 module online by 2030.

        Xe-100 module online by 2030.

Okay. The invest may be given, but with that timeline there is nothing to be excited about. Its most likely that they will be bankrupt by that time as they do not get their permissions.

If I remember correctly nobody wanted to build B. Gates reactor idea in the states, so he went to China. It was then scrubbed by Trump because of… well China.

This youtube video These Mini Nuclear Reactors Can be Built Anywhere taps into the same idea. A German Physicist however estimated that the cost relief by mass production will never take place, as the mass production won’t be reached. But according to the video the active cooling problems (France) are solved by this miniature… however small reactors remind me of The Soviet Union’s Deadly Abandoned Nuclear Generators which where abandoned in the Russian backcountry 🫣.

They even admit the mobile versions, essentially a cargo container, would not be as efficient as their permanent structure. Considering, though, that a standard refrigerator needs less than 1KW, the mobile version may be the best option for some of the small communities in rural Wyoming or Montana, for instance.
