Summary

The EPA finalized a rule to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas producers, which could be challenging for the Trump administration to overturn due to its inclusion in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act, the rule aims to reduce methane—a potent greenhouse gas with over 80 times the warming potential of CO2—by penalizing companies for venting or flaring instead of capturing it.

This regulation, expected to cut 1.2 million metric tons of methane emissions, may be challenging for a potential Trump administration to repeal, as it would require Congressional action.

No, it won’t. I’d love to be optimistic, but realism is psychologically more healthy at this point.

This can be overturned with a simple majority. A supermajority is not required.

Republicans will have full control of Congress. The Inflation Reduction Act is absolutely on the chopping block.

Even if it’s not overturned, who’s supposed to enforce it? The EPA? They’ve already had their authority gutted by the SC, and they’re about to have a pro-oil sycophant installed as chair.

Right. It’s the same with the Constitution. Trump doesn’t need to alter the Constitution to deviate from it. Congress simply won’t hold him accountable to it.

“as it would require congressional action to accomplish legally

I’m absolutely certain the most crime ridden, corrupt, untouchable person in history who is exclusively fueled by revenge and powerlust would be successfully confined by the law after the supreme court explicitly stated that doesn’t matter for presidents.

Yup, he sure learned his lesson that rules and laws absolutely apply to him and there’s no point in trying to outrun justice if you’re wealthy and connected.
