Tried the coffee at McDo last night. Friends had told me for years that it is very serviceable and always fresh but I’m fairly snooty when it comes to coffee. Anyhow, in my opinion, they were right. I’ve had plenty of homemade stuff that was far worse. Price doesn’t break the bank, at a buck fifty, and it comes out at a reasonable drinking temp. Flavor is about like what you get when making coffee with a fresh-cracked bag of supermarket preground stuff. Just plain old decent coffee. For years I just relayed this recommendation with a caveat that I never tried it myself, but now I can shill for them directly. Wheres my check mickey?

The rumor is that when Burger King bought Tim Hortons and changed coffee suppliers to make it cheaper (thus ruining Tim Hortons IMO), McD’s got their old supplier.

Can confirm McD > Tim Hortons since about 2013/2014 though so the timing is right.

In the UK it’s shit, but it’s no worse than Starbucks or Costa. Cheap burnt beans with oversteamed burnt milk on top, fresh out of a machine that’s hopefully cleaned properly by the teens that work there.

Yep, I enjoy my Aeropress (single origin, natural process, Ethiopian lol) when I can. However McD is decent enough, better than Starbucks in my opinion. Apart from some of their filter coffee.

reminder that Starbucks is not about selling coffee, it’s about selling frappucccinos, mochaccinos, and the like – they purposely over-roast their coffee so you will pay for the sugar concoctions to cover up the flavor

Pike is so generically bad that most people don’t even care to complain. They either choke it down or pay for the fancy stuff, as you say.

When they have the True North blend available that’s actually decent. Not a mind-blowing cup, but I’d say a step up from McDonald’s at least.

I’ve had their coffee once in a blue moon, it seems to depend who’s on the shift. I had one cup that tasted bitter like they hadn’t cleaned or emptied old grounds out for a hot minute. But other times it’s just… alright.
