Summary

Boeing is issuing layoff notices to 17,000 employees, about 10% of its workforce, with job cuts effective in mid-January.

The layoffs follow a labor union strike that halted production of key aircraft like the 737 Max and 777s.

Boeing cited financial challenges and structural changes to remain competitive. The company also announced it will end 767 production by 2027 and delayed the 777X rollout to 2026 due to a defective part.

Boeing raised $24 billion to stabilize finances amid a turbulent year marked by safety concerns, production delays, and leadership changes.

Boeing is in the “and find out” phase.

Naturally, a leaner Boeing will emerge. An emaciated Boeing. A Boeing ready to continue to royally fuck up, while running more ragged with fewer resources and less talent.

    We should nationalize Boeing

Any company that gets a government bailout should be owned by the people. Full stop.

Agreed. We paid for it. Why shouldn’t we own it.

I’m down with them being acquired by the government. It can only get worse after January.

The acquisition would take years to plan, get political backing, beat legal challenges, and then implement. Sadly nationalization of a company as large as Boeing would have to start the moment a president started a term.

Feel like anyone at Boeing has had their resume prepped and updated regularly for a while now.
