I had wanted to ask about certain things and look up if similar questions have been already asked, such as 1. the progress of a “start menu” applet that would function like a Linux Mint start menu with a full apps list along with logout and power options, 2. Alpha 3 does not seem to disable the laptop display when the laptop is closed, which is problematic if you use a docking station with monitors attached because you have to manually disable the display, and if you forget to enable the display before unplugging the laptop is unusable until you plug it back in again, 3. installed PWAs don’t have independent icons in the app tray and so can’t be pinned to it 4. would it be possible to have a system for managing and organizing .appimage apps so that they can be launched like an installed app? 5. when right clicking the desktop the dialog menu is obscured by an open windows in front of it, it should open overtop all other windows 6. installed PWAs don’t have an icon. 7. if the panel is positioned on the left side or right side of the screen the date and time applet breaks.

That’s 7 questions alone, if I posted them separately I would likely get blocked for being annoying, and they would be quickly buried so no one could see them. it would be the same on reddit. is there a better place for them?

Oh god, not the start menu applet with list of everything, I hope it is optional. I like how in gnome you don’t have that ugly fucking menu with everything under the sun packed into it.

It’s a free country. it would be nice if it’s available as an applet even if it isn’t enabled by default. Some people like the Linux Mint layout.

There are issue trackers on Cosmic’s github repos, and they welcome any bug reports.

    1. The “Application” menu isn’t a list, but all apps are available to scroll through in the library home.

    2. Suspend works, maybe search for an existing bug report (likely for cosmic-comp).

    3. Might be a bug in cosmic panel. The .desktop file has the correct icon in it, as well in the launcher.

    4. If you use a app image manager (or install a theme with more app icons), they should work flawlessly. Cosmic follows the freedesktop standard for .deskop file, so if you put them at ~/.local/share/applications, they show up like any other installed app. I guess an appimage manager is in scope for cosmic.

    5. A bug worth reporting to the comsic-comp issue tracker.

    6. PWA’s do have an icon in the app launcher.

    7. How does it break? For me, date and time each take up two lines, but they are shown correctly imo. Or you want both to be shown in one line each, which could work for larger sizes of the panel?

Oh yeah and 8. when making custom keyboard shortcuts it doesn’t let you enter the key combination to define it, you have to go by the name of the keys, which are not defined anywhere. Other shortcuts mention the shift and super keys but don’t specify the name. typing “Super+Control+x” isn’t accepted, for example

At some point Settings will support keyboard shortcuts by pressing them. They just didn’t come around to it.

The correct keyword to add a shortcut for “Control” is “Ctrl”. E.g. “Super+Ctrl+X”.

I don’t believe there are plans for a start menu, it’s not how they envision the desktop. However anyone is welcome to cook their own, like this project.

I believe the team is focused on Flatpak. There’s a community project adding some AppImage functionality.

For feature requests you can search/raise issues on the COSMIC GitHub repositories.
