hiboy looks good, but I see a lot of disparaging reviews concerning its build quality.

any firsthand experience with a solid-wheel scooter is what I’m looking for, thanks!

I bought a gotrax and switched to solid tires (bought the solid tires on amazon).

Getting the new solid tires on was super, super difficult and strenuous. You basically have to pour boiling water on the tires to heat them up and then use dish soap, clamps and pry bars to get the tire on. Very difficult. Probably worth it but still…

Also, side note the gotrax is pretty decent but it wasn’t really designed to be taken apart. The bolts for the front wheel (for example) are hidden under a glued reflector on the fork. You basically have to break the plastic to get to the bolts.

      gpt it, thanks.

I’ve used solid tires on bicycles before and had a bit of trouble getting them on, but I imagine something as compact as a scooter tire would be another level more difficult

I have an old model of Ninebot with solid wheels (tires).

Zero service, but little traction on gravel, coarse sand, and be careful on wet surfaces.
With front powered wheel, higher tire wear than rear tire.
    Worse comfort on rough ways.

But zero service wins, no need to pump, to change blown tubes.

yea, zero maintenance is really what I’m looking for, The key issue in my mind, i don’t want to think about having to replace a tire because it’s a pebble is in the way that I can’t steer around.

thanks, the 9bot was the other one I was looking at besides the hiboy.

Also the tire is a pain to get off (pneumatic as well as solid). So it’s not like a bicycle, where changing a tube is a quick thing.

I’m with you, I’ve actually changed scooter tires before and have zero desire to have that weighing on my mind while I’m having fun scooting around.

Yeah, the first time I had a flat I was bleeding with both hands and broke 3 tire levers trying to get it off and back on again.

Next time I had flat I gave up and brought it in to a ebike shop and had them change it.

whoa! so it instantly lost all traction or stopped immediately and you were thrown forward?

mine was on a flat road, just unlucky on a bump.

No, I mean that I hurt myself whenn trying to get the damn tire off. Getting the flat was quite uneventful.

the hiboy s2 pro was my first electric scoots, i think it was worth the price at the time. I think i put close to 1000 miles on it in 2 years. solid tires are fine (required for the roads i ride on, air tires don’t survive long here). It survived getting hit by a car once, but not twice.

getting hit by a car once and surviving is pretty good!

yeah, if I get an electric scooter I’m going to want to ride it all the time everywhere, and don’t want to bother with or think about flat tires.

what kind of range did you get from the s2 pro on a full charge?

full charge on the s2 pro was good for about 10 miles, maybe slightly more.

I am pretty okay with the consumer goods from xiaomi I’ve used, what do you think about their electric scooter in terms of build quality, range all that?

which model did you get for the solid tires? is it called the mi?

The scooter was trash. The main hinge broke after about 18 months. And as always, buying a new one was cheaper than repairing.
