I met a guy who claimed to be involved in this. He had enough tech knowledge for me to believe it. But I dunno if it was true.

Oh I agree. It probably wasn’t. But as a tech guy myself, this guy had impressive knowledge of all things broadcast, was the right age it seemed, and had lots of knowledge about the event. Could have been bullshitting, but I still wonder about it. Never saw the guy again at the bar.
