Hey guys. First, just want to say thanks for taking part in this community and, for me especially, the discussion threads. I love to read everyone’s thoughts about the movies. Secondly, now that we have our mod team better organized and on the same page, we wanted to get the communities input on what rules and guidelines you would like to have. Right now it’s a standard set to fit most any community but we want to make sure we are also addressing things that are unique to Movies as well. So please, hit this thread up with suggestions, thoughts, whatever you think will make this community better. Also if you have any thoughts about things that need to go into the sidebar, feel free to add those as well. Thanks everyone!

I’m not sure how widespread the support for Lemmy’s spoiler markdown is (nothing I use acknowledges it), so that’s something for everyone to be mindful of, I guess. From that, there a ‘super-fun’ discussion to be had about how long to wait before a fact from a film can reasonably posted without a warning, or whether it’s never okay to say “Dumbledore killed the butler”.

Also, I get the sense the users are reluctant to click external links (unsurprising given how unusable many modern websites are). So maybe it’s best if reviews are copy-pasted into posts?

I could have sworn I responded to this, maybe I did but it didn’t go through. Anyway, as of now none of the clients besides browsers display the spoiler tags properly so this is what we are doing for the meantime:

For posts, please put (Spoilers) in the title. I think the consensus for image posts that contain spoilers is to mark as NSFW. That blurs the image. There shouldn’t be any actual NSFW content in this community so anything marked NSFW will mean spoilers for us. If you notice any unmarked spoilers, feel free to do a report and one of us will take care of it ASAP.

Honestly, I would just use your best judgement with the “how long to wait” for facts and such. Use (Spoiler) in the title and be vague if you’re worried. Everyone has a different belief on that stuff so I don’t want to put any hard limits, nor do I really feel like counting days every time someone posts something, ha.

I like that idea to copy reviews into posts, but I’m not going to be too strict on it. Lemmy is basically a link aggregator as well as a “forum” so I feel like external links comes with the territory, but I would encourage copy and pasting into the post as well. And if I have time, I may start doing a review mega-thread type thing, but it’s not a priority at the moment.

      Appreciate the input!

Hello again. It seems like the suggestions I made for the movies Community have been added to the sidebar for the sciencefiction Community instead?
