I’m not happy with how the episode with the gorn ended. I really really liked Hemmer as a character and his arc was cut short way too early.

I don’t normally get upset about character deaths as I know they happen, but they don’t usually happen to a “main character” and I feel like he got the Tasha Yar end of the stick.

I found myself upset saying that’s bullshit at the end when they killed the last Gorn :/

☹️😢

Yep. It sucks. Hemmer is a fantastic character and the actor does an outstanding job.

Yea as much as I like Pelia, Hemmer seemed to round out the crew quite well. With Pelia, the mix leans a bit more “silly/childish”, but with Hemmer it was nicely balanced.

Yeah, same. He was easily my favorite character on the show, what a bad decision that was.

        Yea …

I really liked the first two episodes (alternative timeline episodes) with Kirk. But more Kirk, that isn’t sporadic or kinda in the background, is essentially a distraction from the SNW crew IMO.

Something I can’t unsee with Kirk being prominent in SNW is the Riker/Troi appearance in the last episode of Enterprise … this sort of fan-servicy cameo that kinda makes sense but in reality is an invasion of a series by the bigger starts of another series. That scene in the last Kirk episode where it paused on Uhura, Spock and Kirk sitting around a table together for the first time, while wonderful, really felt like an insult to SNW, not to mention that it didn’t actually contribute anything to their relationships/characters in TOS.

I really like your comparison to Tasha Yar. Hemmer was easily one of my favorite characters. At least his death was in service to the crew, whereas Tasha’s was senseless.

Do you mean Scotty? Bones is the doctor.

Technically both before this show is over. I’m still expecting the last episode to have all the crew in place and Kirk taking the command.

I think you mean Scotty in engineering.

Or, if you mean that McCoy should be unchallenged in his dominance of saltiness…

In either case, as with Kirk, there was and is no reason to rush any of their introductions for at least a couple of seasons. While some legacy characters draws seem to be something dictated from Paramount above, they are crowding out the development of the original characters in the show.

Adding Uhura to a crew that already had young Spock was already a heavy legacy character load. Fridging a great character and performance to advance her growth is a lazy writer’s shortcut, and doing it with the first main cast person a disability is unworthy of Trek values.

I really hope they cast Bruce Horak in another role if we’re not going to see Hemmer brought back to life.
