Today I marathoned the responses in this community. I was amazed by the degree of some of the technical knowledge presented here, as well as found a lot of entertainment in reading replies (learning should be fun)! I also had no idea of the degree of participation as I’ve been (on the spectrum) fixated on other things.

Focus has been on building a welcoming community for users to share frustrations, and purging those that would try to twist it into another platform for zealots to evangelize and discourage from that. We’re still getting hammered by them, but things are coming around and outside of changes to Lemmy, we’ll never be free of them. Some posts that were brigade bombed have turned up hundreds of updoots in the long run (multiple times the down).

Moderation is heavy handed to fix or alleviate the issues and mistakes can happen as a result. Being on the spectrum, I’m not good at detecting humor all the time, and did come across a possible wrongful ban as a result. -They are unbanned now. Thank you for being understanding and tolerant of me. Incidentally, I’ve not seen our membership go down after any bans.

Memes were a big part of getting the ball rolling before wasting effort on articles that would get buried and not see the reach they could get later. They also served to set a tone / flow / direction of the intended use of the community. Lately, I’ve been transitioning into using them as attention getters for articles (something this site does better than Reddit).

Many helpful, and respectful people are here! -I love seeing the passion, helpfulness, and concern for others!

Cheers!
