Insane. I just needed to share this with someone who might give a shit. And this community might not be the place, but still. Needed to call them out somewhere. Gross.

This has been going on for decades with ESPN.

Honestly, you are lucky they showed any highlights at all.

This is why the internet was so key to soccer development in the United States and comes inspite of the TV networks, not because of it

Yeah, definitely. I was going to say something along the lines of, they do this and then tell us all we don’t like soccer.

And the only reason I was actually watching ESPN was because I looked up at the gym and saw, on one of the 25 TVs, something actually interesting, so I started paying attention. And then they showed three goals in under a minute and then said the score was 5-0. And jumped as quick as they could back to American football players talking about a season that hasn’t even started yet. Ffs

I’m excited for the future of the USNMT (and the USNWT of course, but they’re already the best in the world), they’re on a very good track

To clarify, because I can’t seem to edit the post: this was obviously on the highlights/sports news segment. They went on to spend like five minutes talking about the season that hasn’t started yet. Not to mention, they spent at least five minutes on training camp shit BEFORE the women’s WC highlights too.

‘Fun’ fact: England’s Football Association effectively banned women’s football in 1921. Quote: “The game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged.” They lifted the ban in… 1971.

If anything, it’s a bigger surprise ESPN’s showing actual sports instead of just former players arguing about the sports

Similar thing happened here in New Zealand where we are one of the co-hosts for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The sports segment started with a story about the night’s rugby match between New Zealand and Australia.

They ended the sports segment talking about the Women’s Football (soccer).

Now that the rugby game has completed, and tonight the New Zealand women’s Football team are playing a must-win match Vs Switzerland, I’m very interested to see what the news segment starts off with tonight. Will it be tonight’s women’s football game, or highlights talking about last night’s rugby?

They started with the Women’s Football!

But at the end of the day, the result didn’t go our way, and we’ve been eliminated 😭
