So, for privacy and security reasons, I use a VPN. This is normally Mullvad (with DAITA and quantum resistance enabled), but I have ProtonVPN, Windscribe, and Orbot handy in case something doesn’t work.

However, lately I’ve noticed my connections being blocked. This is across three different ISPs: Sky, Virgin, and Wifinity. I have tried all three VPNs and Orbot, and I have tried several protocols (WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, Stealth, and of course SOCKS5) to no avail.

The logical solution would be to use a bridge in Orbot, but the button seems to have been removed. Also, by using Orbot, I will not be protected by my DNS.

I am currently using iOS, but my other machines run Linux and I will be getting a GrapheneOS phone in the near future.

Can anyone help?

@hellfire103 I bet it’s the DAITA on your Mullvad, choose MultiHop instead with Wireguard, quantum resist. and obfuscation . Then use a Linux set from boot SOCKS5 as you desire. I hope it helps.

      Huh, wow! That worked perfectly!

I’ll keep the posts I made open, in case I need another solution, but for now this is excellent. Thank you!

I probably need to switch VPNs. I currently use Surfshark and I experience 2 problems, and I want to see if it’s unique to that service.

    1. Lots of sites block my traffic because they detect i’m coming from a VPN. And just not like… banks or streaming services, but stupid things like Autotrader.com. It’s silly.

    2. The connection always seems to slow down over time, and I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it working at full speed again. I use it on Linux and on Android and the problem happens across devices.

Sounds like Mullvad has some good options.

I would not recommend Surfshark. Mullvad is normally quite good, as are ProtonVPN, Windscribe, and IVPN.

However, as you will be aware from my post, your mileage may vary depending on how nice your ISP is.

I use Surfshark as well and have your problem 1, as I assume most VPN users do, but not your problem 2. My connection and speeds seem pretty stable, even allowing me to max out my connection many hours later.

Perhaps the issue is which server you’re connecting to.

Yeah, I try jumping around. Some are better than others, but none are great.

Lol how many ISPs and VPNs do you have?

Note that DAITA EXTREMELY increases network bandwidth usage. Like it ate a few GB of data just doing nothing, an absolute cell data killer.

Well, that would certainly explain where my mobile data went.

I have three VPNs, one proxy, and one more VPN that I do not have an active subscription to but which I can pay for if the rest fail.

As for ISPs, I have my parents’ WiFi, my grandma’s WiFi, and the WiFi in my student accommodation.

        Interesting

Yeah DAITA is nice but at a high cost. Quantum resistant tunnels too but not so much.

I noticed that on german reduced cell data I get 0 connection when having DAITA or even just Quantum resistant tunnel activated, so I needed to turn it off.
