My trick is to tell myself there is no commitment, that I could read/listen for just 5-10mins and say it’s enough and get back to other stimulating routine. It works cause:
It does make it easier to start next time.
You don’t have that guilty procrastination feeling about it.
Half the time, it gets interesting, so you end up reading/listening for or much longer.
Buying a Kobo was the solution for me, because having the time to go to a library on a regular basis just wasn’t going to happen.
I’m using a third party reader, but Kobo has the option to export the bought books into DRM free formats, so I’ve also been buying ebooks there. And some authors (like Brandon Sanderson) explicitly distribute their books without DRM!

I upgraded my eBook readers to non-Kindle devices, and I’ve been looking for my next DRM free books to buy.
I finished the Vorkosigan Saga, and almost everything by Corey Doctorow. I was looking for another DRM-free author to throw my money at.
Anyone have a recommendation on a good starting point for Brandon Sanderson’s work?
Hey! I usually recommend starting with the Mistborn series, as the first 3 books are a self-contained story and aren’t as long as Storm light Archive. If you want to start with a standalone book, my personal favourite is Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, but Warbreaker or Elantris are also pretty solid. There’s also a collection of short stories called The Arcanum Unbound, if you want to start with some quick glances into the universe.
All in all, it doesn’t really matter in which order you read, as almost all of Sanderson’s work happens in the same universe and has subtle interconnections. Just, when you get to the Stormlight Archive, don’t skip the novellas that were released between the main novels, they are actually relevant to the main plot.

Audiobooks are the secret technique.
Audiobooks don’t work for me. It becomes background noise.
Ebooks on my phone from the library has reduced friction a lot for me. Don’t even have to get off the couch.
100% ive learnt way more things, just by listening on my commute. Saves the good ol eyes.
Why? Do what you enjoy and what stimulates you. If playing video games is what does that then and it’s what you’re doing, then that’s all you should be doing
It’s a particular thing for me, because I’m writing a story, but explaining its appeal to agents without having enough understanding of the current novel space is a tall task…
The current novel space can go suck an egg, all of my favorite books I’ve ever read were all “I had this story burning to get out of me and I had to go through 30 publishers to find one that would take it”
I keep my ereader by my bed and my phone in the other room, so procrastinating getting out of bed is my reading time.
