My cat has asthma and I’m getting incredibly frustrated with everything. I want her to be ok and the constant asthma attackes despite treatment and vet “supervision” are also incredibly trying and I literally can’t think or have any peace for any extended amount of time in the midst of this never ending storm
I tried inhaled corticosterioids (fluticasone) with rescue (ventolin) for over 2 months using the special brand name cat inhaler AeroKat without any effect on the constant asthma attacks.
She’s currently on prednisolone mixed with liquid cat treat which seemed to work for a bit but its been like 2 months and she’s basically at square one again :(
Running out of ideas and I’m curious about those who have found success i managing this and what that looks like day to day. I swear to god, I’m losing my mind over this and the like 1000-1500 ive spent not to mention untold hours thinking about this
Thinking of demanding or switching vets to get:
- daily prednisolone
- 3-4 month supply of prednisolone PER REFILL not every fucking month for half the month
This is the sort of question that I think warrants also asking in Reddit. Your baby deserves a bunch of answers and so does your pain
You should also ask the cats community. They mostly post photos but always answer questions too

Ours has been managed with fluticasone HFA (just increased to 200mcg yesterday) and a low oral dose of prednisolone daily. Sorry your cat is having such a rough time :(
I just need to know that there’s an end to this, I’d have no problem upping her to 200 in addition to daily prednisolone. How do you administer the pred so its palatable?
Also how often does your vet make you visit for refills? Mine has had a super tight leash on me basically giving me 15 tablets (every two day dosing) to last a month and monthly refills at this rate where I have to travel in and buy 15 a la carte tablets and no gurantees or roadmap for getting this actually manageable
The prednisolone is liquid, just use a syringe and squirt it into her mouth. The one our vet has is chicken and bacon flavored which she tolerates pretty well. We actually just restarted it since her asthma was getting bad again, and we’re going to titrate to as low of a dose as is effective since there are some downsides with long-term pred use. She’ll generally have a vet visit once or twice a year to reevaluate
Hmmm my friend had a cat that was presenting as asthma and wasn’t responding to treatment. Turns out the apt she was renting had mold in the walls and she had to emergency move. I don’t want to freak you out, but also consider environmental factors as well. Best of luck to you are your kitty!
