I can’t seem to find an answer to something that’s bugging me.

I am using ‘cast on shock’ to cast ball lightning. Can I add support gems to ball lightning somehow? Do I just stick them in the sockets for ‘cast on shock’ along with the ball lightning skill gem? Does that work?

I’m following a build guide that says to use ‘deceleration’ support gem so ball lightning moves slower. If I try and place that support gem in a socket of ‘cast on shock’ along with the ball lightning skill gem the game says the support gem doesn’t work with cast on shock, which is correct…. But that’s not what I want anyway, I want it to be supporting ball lightning.

I tried experimenting by trying with and without the support gem socketed and I couldn’t really notice any difference in the speed of ball lightning, which makes me think it doesn’t work.

Anyone got any idea?

Do you have ball lightning in the leftmost slot? It should work that way.

Yeah, I tried several different ways. All the way left, all the way right, support gem for the ‘cast on shock’ skill followed by the skill to be cast followed by a support gem for that skill etc. The game always shows a message saying the support gem isn’t compatible with the skill (meaning ‘cast on shock’, it’s definitely compatible with ball lightning).

I searched a bit more online too and, from what I can see, it’s not possible. Seems you can’t add support gems to skills that are already socketed in a ‘cast on…’ skills sockets. The support gem will just auto apply to the ‘cast on…’ skill instead.

At least, that’s my understanding, but I’m totally new to poe (never played the first one) so if anyone knows any better, I’m all ears.
