Summary
French President Emmanuel Macron joined European leaders in criticizing Elon Musk for allegedly interfering in democratic processes, including Germany’s upcoming elections.
Musk, who has publicly supported Germany’s far-right AfD party and criticized left-wing leaders, faces backlash for using his platform X (formerly Twitter) to promote divisive views.
Norway’s prime minister and Germany’s vice-chancellor also condemned Musk’s actions, with Olaf Scholz calling for restraint.
British PM Keir Starmer dismissed Musk’s attacks as misinformation, while critics warn Musk’s behavior undermines democratic norms and exploits his social media influence for political ends.
If only any of these people had some power to do something within their respective countries. But alas
No, they shouldn’t.
Can you imagine what we would think if Heads of State discussed banning Twitter back in the day?
Some totalitarian countries did ban Twitter and other social networks years ago as part of their subjugation of their citizens.
Nowadays, banning Xitter (and Bluesky and Facebook/Instagram) would be liberating their citizens.
Time to grow a spine and treat the shambling corpse of Twitter like we do with other extremist websites.
This isn’t even helpful because of how openly Macron has been an undemocratic POS recently. They’re all clocking in overtime to convince the uninformed voters of the world that the richest man on earth is actually a populist.
Good for Macron.
The EU needs to ban twitter completely.
The French King must fire his government immediately… Oh wait.
