China is widely regarded as the world’s leading executioner with thousands estimated to be executed annually, but information surrounding executions is considered a state secret.
Can anybody out there find the per capita statistics? There’s soooo much imperial propaganda on these searches but not much actual data.
edit: Here’s some rough numbers of these states doing the division manually (per million people):
- 8.74 Iran
- 8 Saudi Arabia
- 2 Iraq
- 1.33 North Korea (approx)
- 0.07 United States
- ??? China
Ofc there might be countries with higher per capita rates, but it’s hidden behind a flood of propaganda.
The raw numbers are in your link and the population is probably on Wikipedia. Getting to the per capita numbers shouldn’t be that hard.
Yeah. I just added that to my comment. But this might not include other countries.
I think the biggest tell is how imperial news constantly talks about Iran and NEVER talks about Saudi Arabia.
If Saudi didn’t provide oil, they’d be just as condemned. It’s sad.
Both are bad, of course. But it may be emotionally charged, but i think Saudi is much worse. I think western outlets should condemn Iran, and Saudi. But we both know they aren’t condemning Iran out of morality.
Europe: 0 (if you exclude Belarus)The deterrent effect of the death penalty isn’t proven. I don’t see positive effects if it doesn’t help to prevent crimes. (there are other measures which do work)I’m glad that it is that way here. I wouldn’t want to live in a country that threatens to kill its inhabitants.Edit: on second thought, my comment is off topic. Since the question was how many and not why. Sorry.
