In the questioned segment, Vice Ganda and Ion Perez shared a moment licking frosting on a cake, which received various reactions from viewers.

    What?

Even watching the highlights video from ABS-CBN Entertainment YT doesn’t really point me to anything “morally objectionable,” except, perhaps to them being a gay couple and celebrating their love for each other. Should the two be stoned to death publicly then? Sa Quirino Grandstand kaya, tapos i-invite lahat ng nag-comment sa vid, bigyan ng tag-isang basket ng bato.

Is that the kind of ‘morality’ Filipinos want to uphold? It seems that a lot of the comments on the video would point towards that. Comments such as this one:

Grabe awa awa ko sa mga bata. Ang mga bata ay tinuturuan nang kagandahang asal hindi kahayupan at kaimoralan.

Had it been a straight couple, I don’t think there’d be any summons from MTRCB, nor there’d be any noise about this.

I hate “whataboutism” but in this case, you just can’t help it. Tito Sotto had a similar incident on a July 28 episode but didn’t get any flak for it likely because they’re a heterosexual couple.

I completely agree. I’m sure the same commenters on the other vid would characterize that as “sweet”, and “shows how love can transcend time and age” or whatever shit.

What I could disagree is the characterization of pointing this out as ‘whataboutism.’ I would characterize this as highlighting the double-standards inherent in the reactions to the event in the main post. Of course, the line between highlighting double-standards and ‘whataboutism’ can be blurry for some, and can be used to muddy things. However, to me at least, this shows that public display of affection is pretty much accepted if it’s between heterosexual couples, but somewhat of a taboo if it’s between homosexual couples.

I thought na literal na subuan ng cake nangyari, but Vice had the presence of mind to take the icing on his own finger. I guess its the faces he was making that’s suggestive? I’m not the person to ask because I’m not exactly conservative, lol.

That said, MTRCB was reacting to complaints and they’re just taking the appropriate action (kinda like Barbie).

Why MTRCB exist again? They are the reason movies produced in Philippines tend to be so lame they stifle creativity.

Every country needs a ratings board, particularly with free TV.

Tbf to them, they usually steer clear of film festivals, which allows filmmakers the leeway to just make whatever movie they want. That’s why we have movies like Fisting, Dog Days, or the unfortunate My Father Myself. Heck, QCinema constantly shows some of the most extreme art films around (Gaspar Noe’s Love, Stranger By The Lake last year) and they don’t stand in the way.

I agree ratings are good way for people to know what they are watching. But here is my problem with MTRCB could have just been an private org or a ngo that gives rating not censor. Yes they did not touch movie festivals but takes alms on almost nil suggestive act is because it’s done on free tv? Wants to ban a movie because it’s showing Sulu in bad light. Did not even think of the fact banning it the PH does not do a thing because the intended audience we’re not us. Imagine if MTRCB did have their plans approved on monitoring Netflix and other streaming networks. All the censorship you can imagine blood being black and white, curse words bleep out and just a hint of sexuality is banned, scenes cut out and any political talks banned. Trese won’t likely even exist. This is why big companies in Philippines keep producing garbage movie not just because it sells to the mass because it makes MTRCB happy.
