The future of Wisconsin’s top election administrator, a respected and experienced elections official, is uncertain as state Republicans continue to fan the flames of rightwing conspiracy theories about her role in the 2020 election.

“I think you would agree with me that Meagan Wolfe is blamed for all manner of fanciful conspiracies that have no basis in fact,” said Don Millis, a Republican commissioner. “What’s concerning about these conspiracy theorists is that they’re willing to trash the reputations of anyone who’s interested in trying to administer elections fairly in our state.”

Facts don’t matter to these people. They’ve made it clear that they believe in “alternative facts” if the actual facts don’t support their agenda.

It’s been eye-opening to see conspiracy theorists gaining enough attention now to cause real damage since 2016. I wish they’d go back to focusing on UFOs and aliens instead.

These people give actual conspiracy theorists a bad name. They don’t have theories, there’s no basis any of their claims other than it makes them feel good to attack political opponents and othered groups.

This comment just reminded of the great loss of r/conspiracy, which was essentially overrun by these idiots as they trampled what was once upon a time home to some honestly fun/interesting conspiracy theories and discussions.

Yes, they’re not conspiracy theorists. Conspiracy theorists start with a set of verified facts to arrive at a speculative conclusion. These people are twisting and ignoring facts to form an agenda. That makes them textbook propagandists, not theorists of any kind.

They gave themselves the wrong label, knowingly, and the mainstream media has blithely and consistently granted them this wholly unearned legitimacy.
