So how close are we to getting low end large capacity SSDs at affordable prices? I mean, are we ever gonna be able to buy 12TB SSDs for our desktops or home NAS for similar prices to mechanical drives??
SSD $/TB costs will keep going down, but I can’t see them rivaling HDDs in the next 5-10 years.
The cost per TB of mechanical drives keeps going down too. I doubt high capacity SSDs will ever be cheaper than HDDs.
Especially with the next big leap towards 40tb spinning rust.
I feel they are crazy cheap already, you can find ssds for 50€ the TB.
Aren’t they not meant for storage too, so HD will always be the preferred solution there (electrons needs to be reactivated in ssds IIRC)?
