Off-leash Chihuahuas and mini dachshunds are the bane of my (leashed) pibble’s existence on walks. They are forever running up and getting right in her face. When they bite her or latch onto her throat she lays down on them. After a few squishes the dog usually gives up while the panicked owner wails “I’m so sorry… Princess! Come here Princess!.. I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry.”

My dog is chill but if she eventually ragdolls a biter I don’t want to hear any complaining about it. FAFO.

There is a meme list of the 10 most aggressive dogs, that goes something like

    1. Aggression is learned
    2. not bred

    10: Chiwawa

Bear in mind that a lot of what we look at as fighting is really just dog play.

Having said that, I have seen plenty of real mismatches. Fortunately our enormous but gentle husky/shepherd/akita mix seems to be impervious. He just watches them trying to chew on him with a “isn’t that cute” look on his face.

One time when I was watching my sisters mastiff I took him to the dog park and saw him get attacked by a little terrier. Bear in mind that this is a +200lb dog who’s job it was to protect livestock on my sisters farm when she had a farm. When that terrier attacked him he literally just put a paw down and pinned the poor thing with it then looked over at me like “help. What do I do with this?” The poor terrier was fine but it’s like, really? That mastiff is bread to be able to fight wolves. What in that little terriers mind made it think it was going to be the david to that goliath.

I like huge dogs that are only terrifying when they’re on the clock and are otherwise perfectly gentle. That “Sigh, Hey authority simian, I stepped in something and I need an adult” energy is just excellent.

Terriers were originally bred for mass murdering rats, idk if that has something to with their agressive tendencies

My mom’s doxie went camping with me when she was a few months old. She picked a fight with a blackbear. Or at least tried to.

The bear thankfully was some mix of amused and incredulous but decided to mosey on its way instead.

She’d pick a fight with anything and then hide behind me. Thanks, doggo.

          Edit: Dog tax!

😂 yeah that’s strong terrier energy. They either have no concept, or give no fucks, about how small they are. My family’s Jack Russell would square up to horses and she would not back down from anything

That’s hilarious. Our Doberman Pinscher pees himself when a horse walks by. He gets so scared!

Our seven pound Pomchi chased a German Shepherd across an entire park once. She was tearing after it like a bat out of hell, and it was running with its tail tucked under its legs as if the baddest dog on the block was chasing it. I guess it was right, our Pomchi was a badass.

Had a Maltipoo as a kid and a dalmatian went after my mom once and my lil 5lb fluff ball went after that dalmatian with a FURY. He chased the dalmatian into a ditch and broke its leg in like 3 places. The owner of the dalmatian tried to get my mom to pay for vet bills and my mom told them to fuck off because their dog tried attacking her.

Ah, that’s a shame about the injury. It was a funny story until that part. Thankfully your mom walked away uninjured though. Hopefully that dalmatian recovered and got some training. It’s kind of crazy what a good reputation dalmatians have considering that they’re fairly aggressive dogs. Maltipoos are adorable little dogs. I didn’t know they had a fearlessness to match their sass.

My mom was fine and the family with the dalmatian moved shortly after. My dog was the cutest lil guy and loved everything except other dogs. He despised them all aside from 2 specific dogs. His fave thing was interacting with human babies. He broke out of the yard more than once to go visit the neighbors after they had a baby.

Our last two dogs also hated every other dog. Now we have a Doberman puppy whose father is 90 pounds, and the vet said he’ll be 100 pounds, so the idea of him hating other dogs was quite unacceptable. We enrolled him in puppy socialization classes, and spent a lot of time at Lowe’s, pet stores, Goodwill, and other places where he can see other dogs in public. Now he loves other dogs. He gets so excited every time he sees another dog, and always does his play bow with his little tail going a mile a minute. Unfortunately most people don’t socialize their dogs, so he’s not usually greeted very happily by the other dogs. We need to find him some playmates in the area, because he absolutely loves playing with other dogs.

My dogs love other dogs, but other dogs tend not to like them because my beagle screams really loud when excited and my mini goldendoodle tries to make beagle noises and it comes out kinda scary sounding lol

Haha, that’s funny about your golden doodle. They’re very smart dogs, so it’s not surprising that it’s trying to copy the beagle. One of our last dogs was a springer spaniel mix and he would roo roo all day long. He was by far the most vocal dog I’ve ever met.

I think the other dogs don’t like your dogs because people just don’t socialize their dogs properly, so they’re uncomfortable with other dogs. I know that the two I told you about were not socialized properly at a young age because we didn’t know any better. Once they hit a certain age their personalities are pretty set, and it gets very difficult to socialize them.

My parents got a dog in 2020 and she is incredibly wary of people and other dogs because she couldn’t get socialized. My parents can’t have guests the dog doesn’t already know. She’s a great dog, just anxious because she didn’t get the exposure she needed as a puppy because of the pandemic.
