Plain tortilla chips are for dipping. Do you use the cheese ones for salsa…?

If its the brand in the photo in the post its one of the longest running in NZ and OP is right they have no flavour at all. But we do have good tortilla chip brands in NZ now (for ages it was basically this brand and Doritos/CCs), and the plain ones are much better and def delicious.

I took for granted my proximity to Mexico… Now I feel guilty for rubbing it in OP’s face. I’m sorry, New Zealand!

Heh, well yes - even our best brands from specialty online retailers or restaurants probably aren’t going to compare to what you can get! Its got a lot better in the last decade though, I think anyway i’ve not had the opportunity to try the real thing.

Natural tortilla chips have corn and salt. I doubt the cheese variant has just cheese. It even any cheese

Even when I’m coating them in cheese and grilling them. Still gonna use the cheese ones.

Nobody says no to double cheese.

Try a different brand, Me Hiko, Go Nutz, or Tostitos plain are all much better than Mexicano. There are some other brands out there but I forget the names at the moment and those 3 are usually available in the supermarkets.

Personally If I want to eat a lot of tortilla chips, I get the 1KG bags from Tio Pablo, no “cheese” flavour though!

Used to love the mexicano ones but they’re not as good as they used to be. Also their Jalapeno flavour is barely spicy, even my 2 year old can eat it.

These are not “Natural” flavoured they are unflavoured, i.e. natural - it is up to the user to add flavours, i.e. via spicy sauce and seasoning to suit. They are the best type if a person has any kind of cooking capability. The flavoured ones are overly salty. The jalapeno ones admittedly are very moreish, but that salt remains a concern.
