formerly* is the word you’re thinking of.

This is great news. But I have absolutely no faith that Spez won’t revert such a change, given his well-publicized love for M*sk.

Frankly, I’m surprised that there are mods who dare to show any sort of defiance at all. I thought all the defiant ones left or decided they were OK with ring-kissing deference to Spez.

Have some of them grown backbones in the meantime?

Well, it’s not direct opposition to Spez yet. Just sort of…second-order uprising.

I don’t see why Spez wouldn’t like it. His mods are banning linking to a different social media website and he can claim plausible deniability.

Because he thinks Elon is the smartest smart boy ever. The whole reason Lemmy got its big boost a couple years ago is that Elon banned third party apps and Spez thought that sounded like a good idea.

That’s different. Spez banned third party apps because he thought there was significant revenue loss from having users use third party apps. What money is he losing if his subs don’t link to X?

He specifically cited Elon and Twitter as reasoning when shutting down the API. So now, if Elon calls up Spez and says he wants the links unbanned, I betcha Spez dances to Elon’s tune.

I recognize that it’s not a financial loss for him now. But it’s also not really enough of a gain for him to care; all the social media CEOs are co-cronies together, so he’ll probably do it.

I can’t think of a single Twitter post I’ve seen on here. Just seems like begging for increased censorship for the sake of it. Let’s not encourage powermods behavior.

A few have. I saw a post from the Playstation community on .world and one from somewhere else I can’t recall, glad these communities are taking a stand (not that I see many Twitter links on this site in the first place).
