This was very disappointing. It is bad enough that Samsung has made almost no changes to either the S line or the Z Fold for the last 2 or 3 years, but they make it even worse by raising prices. The trade-in deals seem worse than in the past as well. I actually like Samsung’s software, but they really need to put more focus on their hardware again.
I’m on a Pixel 7 Pro and was considering moving to S25 Ultra this year but it’s really hard to understand whether it’s a good phone when all impressions are about how similar it is to last year’s model…
And last year’s model was very similar to the model released the year before that.
So essentially it’s not much of an upgrade if the S25 Ultra at large is similar to the S23 Ultra which was available at the time I got my P7P…
Yeah I think the picture quality from Pixel cameras is better than the Galaxy in certain conditions, but the camera app is just way better on the Galaxy. (I’m currently using a Pixel 6 Pro and an S23 Ultra and I hate the Pixel’s camera app.)
Actually there are quite a few things I like better in the Samsung software, and I can’t think of anything I like better on the Pixel…
Yeah, and I have a Galaxy Watch 6 and my wife has a Galaxy S23 (not sure if there is any “ecosystem” benefit of us both having Galaxies though…)
I guess I could wait to see what the Pixel 10 has in store but then again - why get a Pixel when you are not going to use what is Pixel about it? I’m in Europe so I don’t get all the smart features of the Pixel - I just get vanilla Android with worse hardware than the competitors. But a nice camera which I like. Haven’t tried the Galaxy camera app in a while!
It’s disingenuous to say, “oh it’s exactly the same phone”. It’s a narrow interpretation of “it’s the same design language and nothing revolutionary”. But compared to the S23 it’s a massive power overhaul on the processor. It has 12GB of ram. The screen is top notch LTPO, which the S23 didn’t have. The cameras are way improved, it can film 8K, which the S23 couldn’t. It has the toughest Gorilla screen to date. Sure, the changes year after year are nothing to write home about. But small incremental changes stack over time. The average person is keeping phones for 3 or more years. Compared to an S22 or S21, it’s a beast upgrade. I think those are the people they are marketing to, and it’s smart, no one sane is buying a new phone every single year and a lot of people value a new device over a refurbished or used one.
Huh, I missed the event, I thought it was still a couple of days away. Surprised to learn they’re not doing the Exynos variant anymore.
Anyway, as someone interested in picking up a Samsung phone, would y’all say the S25 is worth it? Or maybe this is just the right time to grab a S24?
