Summary

Costco is resisting a shareholder proposal urging an evaluation of potential business risks linked to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. The proposal argues that Costco’s DEI initiatives pose litigation, reputational, and financial risks.

Costco believes its commitment to inclusion is essential and that the requested report would not provide valuable information. This stance contrasts with other major companies, which have scaled back DEI programs due to pressures from conservative groups and the Trump administration.

Costco’s support for DEI sets it apart from other companies facing similar pressures.

Well I’ll be damned… If anybody told me I’d be rooting for Costco one day… That’s how weird Trump’s world is.

Of all the giant retailers, Costco has always been the best.

Costco has always been the best giant retailer the same way prostate cancer is the most curable cancer: you still don’t want cancer.

Unless it’s a cancer that resists Trump of course.

Yes big box stores drive out small businesses but it’s far more efficient to have one central hub where giant pallets of products are delivered and sold in large quantities than hundreds of small stores each burning oil on heating and delivery trucks to sell small portions of products requiring more trips from consumers. -or even worse: Amazon and Door Dash.

For me at least, costco is a good complement for smaller local stores. Get the basic staples/commodities where price is the main factor at costco, and hit the local shops for speciality items that you don’t need or want a pallet of.

The real threat to mom & pop shops is places like Walmart and Amazon that sell virtually everything under the sun.

Costco wanted to put a store in a lower working class black neighborhood in my city. Rich and upper middle class white people were all for it, people of color and working class people were against it. It got ugly in city council meetings. People said some racist AF stuff on public record. Guess who won. They bulldozed a perfectly wonderful neighborhood. Displacing a community. Happens all too often under the guise of “this time, it is not racist and classist.” Point being even the most DEI centered companies aren’t in it for our interests. It’s all about profit for the top folks. This news is good and I’m super glad for their workforce but please don’t stan for these companies, they aren’t your friends or neighbors. Stan your neighbors.

What? Costco is considered a legitimately good company to work for even at the lowest entry level jobs with pay above minimum wage and benefits offered that many similar jobs wouldn’t. I literally have never stumbled on any Costco negativity until now so is this like just some general hate to anything large and successful in capitalism ? Did I miss something and just only know the propaganda? It doesn’t even have the same economic displacement as Walmart for example, because it requires a membership, has limited variety of options for anything on your list that they carry and you also have means and desire to pay for in bulk. Generally people don’t do all their shopping at costco/Sam’s club (latter of which IS owned by Walmart)

It truly is amazing that the bar is so low. Basic fucking decency is lauded. I wonder how much Costco unions have to do with maintaining DEI.

I don’t get the shareholders, why don’t they move their money to a company that follows their lack of values. If they interested in Costco I’d because they liked their way of doing business
