Summary

Wyoming Republicans introduced a bill redefining healthcare to exclude abortion, but legal experts warn its vague language could limit life-saving treatments like chemotherapy and heart surgery.

The bill bars procedures that “cause harm” unless deemed necessary, raising concerns among medical and legal professionals.

Critics argue it violates Wyoming’s constitutional right to healthcare and shifts medical decision-making from doctors to politicians.

While lawmakers acknowledge flaws in the bill, they intend to refine it. Experts fear other states may adopt similar legislation to restrict abortion access.

I’m surprised they haven’t streamlined into JeebusGPT by now with the output piped directly to ALEC.

They know how to do it. They just don’t want to deal with the bot talking like Jesus and saying things that go against their belief

Someone needs to build an LLM based on Jesus’s teachings, give a bunch of pastors and politicians access to it for free/under the guise of “same team,” and watch them seethe.

Poison is medicine if the dose is right. How do they not know this‽

Oh wait: They celebrate idiocy and anti-intellectualism! Ignorance is their status quo!

Good comment but I would have upvoted just for the use of the interrobang.

“We have the best of intentions, and sometimes bills start out a little rockier than others,” Steinmetz said.

Republicans once again paving their path to hell. I wish they would just go there already and leave us all alone.

“Cause harm” is, in very many cases, a grey area which the person receiving the treatment should be the last word on.

Like, a cancer patient should be able to consult with their healthcare team and — wait for it — choose what is appropriate for them.
