The nationwide operation also identified or arrested 126 suspects of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking and 68 suspected traffickers.

I wonder how many of those victims were adult sex workers charged with trafficking themselves.

Oh dear Lord - I had no idea what you were talking about so I checked in with my friend Google.

I miss the days of my youth when conspiracy theories were fun.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The FBI found 200 sex trafficking victims and more than 125 suspect during a two-week child explotation operation in July, federal officials said Tuesday.

“Sex traffickers exploit and endanger some of the most vulnerable members of our society and cause their victims unimaginable harm," Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said in a statement.

“This operation, which located 59 actively missing children, builds on the tremendous work the FBI has undertaken over many years to rescue minor victims and arrest those responsible for these unspeakable crimes.

The FBI-led initiative in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) “focused on identifying and locating victims of sex trafficking and investigating and arresting individuals and criminal enterprises involved in both child sex and human trafficking,” federal officials said.

“Behind every statistic, there is a person with dreams, aspirations, and the right to live a life free from child sex trafficking and exploitation," NCMEC President and CEO Michelle DeLaune said in a statement.

How are 59 children missing? I can’t wrap my head around that.

There are a lot more than 59 missing children at any time. There are hundreds of millions of people in the US, a few will go missing all the time.

most missing children are with their other parent who is hiding from court ordered custody, and thus don’t even know they are missing. However kidnapping (often for sex) does happen once in a while, it takes time for the FBI to track these down and in the mean time those doing it have time to kidnap a 58 more kids.

there is nothing unique about the US here. all countries have similar problems, as criminals are everywhere and it takes time for law enforcement to track down any particular criminal.

There are over 300 million people in the US. It would be unthinkable for there to only be 59 missing children at any given time.

Children are easy to carry and often easily accessible. Sadly, it is often as simple as driving close to one in a car, then pulling them inside.

Actually, that can work for adults as well, according to some vids and news stories I’ve seen. Many crimes are incredibly easy. Just like the death toll and environmental/monetary/health cost of cars, it’s just not mainstream knowledge.

And that doesn’t include all the other causes. Runaways are missing, and often intentionally trying to stay missing. Parents taking children and leaving the country without telling anyone can make them all be “missing”. Bureaucratic issues can mean that a simple move leaves children “missing” in one official register or another. Some people or families are simply not “in the system”, living off-the-grid.

I guess a lot of them are foster teens who are in group homes or such and aren’t that easy to track. Ugh.

59 is .0000174% of the US population according to Wolframa Alpha.

      Does that help visualize it?

no, it just seems to me that the US news would be bursting with stories of missing children.

And how many of those were sexually exploited and how many just ran away? This whole thing sounds like than fishy.

A lot of the time these are either people who entered the country illegally or are runaways. It’s not an excuse, but it definitely limits the amount of law enforcement eyes that would otherwise be looking (i.e. a handful of families report missing children vs dozens).
