The minivan is the peak vehicle. You can fold down or take out the back seats and fit a 4x8 panel no problem. You can travel, haul, and store till your heart is content in it. It is a car chassis so it is low to the ground but with a tall cabin so you are nice and upright. No one even looks if you sped because you have like an invisibility filter against attention. Not only that, the only knock is that it isn’t cool…which makes no sense, if getting a sports car is “compensating” then having a minivan proudly means you have nothing needing to compensate for. It is the sigma of vehicles. (2013 town and country owner)

I’m single, but like doing trips around the state. I’ve been slowly convincing myself to get one. Gas mileage is about the same as a common suv.

SUVs are terrible, so if that’s your alternative I’d say minivan all the way. You could pop out the seats and sleep in the back easily. If you don’t need that you might as well get something smaller with better mileage.

That’s what I’m starting to realize. I do like mine’s compact size for maneuverability. But not likely it’s the end of the world, or that I’d be physically moving it myself.

I’ll defend minivans until the day I die. They’re perfect. I have a friend who keeps talking about wanting a truck and any advantage he lists is better with a minivan for his use case. Way better storage, comfort, and convenience than a pickup.

My dad’s hobby is lumberjacking and he just retired his 2003 Sienna, the old family van, for a 2013 Sienna. They’re ideal because they pull his trailers no problem and store all of his tools at a nice low height that’s accessible from all 3 sides.

Its such a shame that the 5th gen dodge caravan/ town and country has so many issues. You can pick them up dirt cheap in good condition, but you’ll have a bunch of small (and big) problems. They came with the stow n go and some had swivel and go where the second row seats could spin around and face the third row.

Yeah, our Ody only has stow and go for the 3rd row bench. It would be nice to have a stowable 2nd row as well

We’ve never had any major issues with it outside of scheduled maintenence

The dodge 3.6 has a major issue where one of the internal oil galley plugs comes loose causing loss of oil pressure to the rocker arms. It presents itself as a ticking noise coming from the engine. You have to replace the rocker shafts, rocker arms, and if you let it get bad enogh, the camshafts.

Dodge fwd tranamisaions have been an issue for almost 40 years. People neglect them and put the wrong fluid in them, which makes them go bad.

My father totaled his odyssey and he has missed it ever since.

He plays drums in a pretty popular bar band in our area so he’s got gigs most weekends and when he also had 3 boys he was able to pile all of us in there with a full set of drums if he had to.

Thankfully all his boys have gone off to cause problems elsewhere in the world and he has switched to a full electric set so now he rocks a Prius happily, but he does always say he misses that Odyssey any time it comes up in conversation.

Just a great vehicle all around.
