Just gonna point this out, GTA is one of the most accessible games for kids learning to play a game. Shooters are very difficult to grasp aiming with one thumb, moving with another, and shooting. Games where you have to follow instructions or solve puzzles are impossible till a kid gets the hang of games.

GTA? X button gets in and out of any car you want. Driving couldn’t be easier and is so much fun. Get out of the car and run around till you get bored, then just hop in another car.

And when you die? No reading, or lengthy instructions you need to follow. No, just spawn outside a hospital right next to another car.

I always felt like somebody needed to create a GTA clone just for kids. Everything about it should stay the exact same, just cartoonify the violence and get rid of the sex and drugs and stuff.

The closest to that - a cartoonified GTA style game is “Lego City Undercover.” It covers most of the bases for a kid-friendly open world gta style game.

I never played it. I didn’t think there was driving. Or that it was made for kids

Hehe, I remember my daughter around that age loved to watch me play bioshock. She called it “the hand game”. Hope watching me harvest all those little sisters didn’t affect her in any way… I also used to set her up on top of my base with a sniper rifle and a mountain of ammo and let her take care of blood moon hordes in 7 days to die.

Are we only counting computer games? Because I think parents taking time to playing board games with their kids are the coolest.

Honestly, GTA is much better for children than Roblox. Much less pedos around.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that GTA is good for kids. It just means that something else is even worse.

My father didn’t cared and my mother would tell me not to bully the kids in bully, but never forced me to stop playing thoses games, and most parents at that time where like that, at least in my social circle

Back in the day, I let my younger brother and cousins play GTA Vice City in my room. They never played the story but would enter cheats and compete to see who could get the most stars and survive the longest. They were 5-7 years old haha. In retrospect, not a good move on my end but I was only about 15.

It’s cyberpunk for me and my kid. It’s a family favorite game for some reason.

GTA 3 came out when I was in 3rd grade and I remember my dad renting it from Blockbuster. My mom was not thrilled.
I personally remember thinking, “This is like Driver, but better.” I think we eventually bought it a year or two later, but my mom wouldn’t let me play, so I to do it when she wasn’t around.

Stayed at a Jehova’s witnesses’ house for a few months and they said I couldn’t play final fantasy X in their house because it was too violent

Depends on what’s meant here with “GTA”. GTA 1 was not really that bad. There’s shooting, which is not cool, but it’s not very graphic.

Then there’s GTA2 where you collect people from the street and turn them into kebab meat with a lot of screaming. And, starting from GTA3, the games start getting seriously.bad fir children.

But, the meme might mean GTA1 or GTA2.

I’m from a previous generation so for me it was my parents buying me Leisure Suit Larry 7 for Christmas.

I must have been around 13/14years old. I asked for it. We had an old PC with the original game on it and I learned there were new versions, so I asked for the newest one. My parents knew about the original game but since it was just blocky DOS graphics, they thought it would be something similar. However in retrospect, it’s not at the level of letting a 5 yo play GTA.

My kid is seven. I let him play GTA5. He just likes to steal the cars and drive them around. I don’t let him do the missions or shoot anybody. He loves it.

Some earlier GTA could be better for this. I tried driving around for the scenery, but there was so much random violence happening around that my kid got scared. I did manage to explain everything upside down in the end, so no harm done, but it did not feel nice.

GTA3:SA still wouldn’t have had that effect, I think(?)
