Not the best thing for the IPO price for sure

Redditors who created the content all these years won’t be given any shares, neither would the mods

Yeah, I was thinking that too. This John Oliver spam reminded me how at some point recently (before the protests) the biggest french meme subreddit r/rance was full of images of Bernard Tapie with some wordplay for like two days (eventually the mods stepped in to stop the flood). I don’t know if such a thing is common in the bigger subs, but maybe currently some are just thinking “oh, a new John Oliver trend, neat.” (Though, the larger scale and the fact other posts are not allowed, and the fact the trend is here to stay for as long as the protest, make the thing quite different.)

My two cents: they should have gone with The Woz with an Apple II computer by his side.

The more I read about the history of Apple, the more I realized Woz was the genius and Jobs was just a sociopathic con man.

Got to love the users who entirely miss the point. Complaining that this is ruining their experience, well go complain to Reddit for failing to listen to community feedback and refusing to negotiate.

Users of subs are choosing these paths which is way more user driven than what Reddit admins are doing.

Here’s the post text, so you don’t have to click-through directly to Reddit:

_Hello, esteemed members of the r/iPhone community,

We recently conducted a poll to ascertain your preferences on the future direction of our subreddit. The two options we presented were:

Return to our regular operations, focusing solely on discussions, news, updates, and experiences related to all things iPhone.

Embrace a new, exciting journey where we would go public, and allow only the sharing of captivating photos of Apple’s dashing CEO, Tim Cook.

We listened, and you spoke loud and clear.

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that, by a landslide, you chose Option 2: The Dashing Tim Cook Extravaganza!

Starting from this very moment, we are opening the floodgates to a new era of appreciation for the man behind the magic of our beloved iPhones. We’re inviting you all to share your most cherished high-quality images of Tim Cook, in all his characteristic charm and style. Whether they’re from official Apple events, product launches, or public appearances, we can’t wait to see them all.

But that’s not all! We are also opening up the floor for text posts that express admiration for Tim Cook. Feel free to pen your heartfelt thoughts, anecdotes, or even poetic love letters dedicated to the charismatic captain of Apple Inc. Let’s foster a spirit of positivity and admiration, creating a unique blend of iPhone discussions and Tim Cook appreciation posts.

We would like to remind everyone that while we are opening up to a wider range of content, our commitment to maintaining a respectful and supportive community remains steadfast. Please ensure that all posts and comments abide by our subreddit rules, as well as Reddit’s wider community guidelines. We reserve the right to remove any content that doesn’t meet these standards.

Thank you for your participation and enthusiasm in shaping the future of r/iPhone. Here’s to a bright, fun-filled, and dashing new chapter!

    Stay charming, r/iPhone!_

This is hilarious lol. The fuckwit himself (Spez) forced subreddits to reopen with an iron fist and now we’re starting to see the consequences. Schadenfreude at its finest

So is that some kind of workaround to protest the API changes while still technically discussing something iPhone related, to avoid mods being removed?

Whatever the reason, I love it.

Moderators are unable to stop Reddit from reopening their Subreddits because keeping them closed may be seen as a breach of the terms of service. However, they can alter the Subreddit’s rules and reopen it with these changes, especially if the community agrees. This action is not forbidden by any Reddit rule (so far). Community consensus is reached through voting. As a result, the Subreddit becomes inundated with low-value content such as pictures and memes, which puts more pressure on the platform as it currently desperately strives to increase its value.
