I went to my local theater for Oppenheimer and was shocked by how bad the experience was. I hadn’t been there in 10 years with the only other theater experience being Dolby Cinema Laser a few times which is great. This dated local theater with Christie DLP projectors was shockingly bad compared to what I have become used too. The “blacks” were more of a bright whitish grey and the entire picture looked ridiculously washed out. The audio was subpar and bass almost non existent.

This is the same theater that looked great to me years ago. My budget 5.3.2 Atmos and S95B blow it away now.

Has anyone else been shocked by an unexpected bad experience due to being unknowingly spoiled by newer tech?

The image and sound quality at my local imax was great.

I hated being around people who don’t put their phones away or won’t stop talking or the IWatch starts glowing or they have to get up and go to the bathroom.

    I’m done with movie theatres.

The Dolby Dual laser Avatar 2 showing was nearly empty when we went. I was surprised and never noticed a single phone. We have to drive 80 miles for that theater though and they won’t show a movie for long before downgrading it to lesser projector rooms. With the reserved seating, it is hard to catch one with good seats. More than 99% of the movies I watch are at home but I will still make the trip for something special if I can work it out. That is unless idiots ruin it for me too, then I will opt out forever like you

I’ll still catch a special movie at the theatre if I can get good seats.

For me, it’s the seats. I just can’t anymore at the older theater with the crappy chairs.

I must be getting old because comfortable seats factors into my choice of theatre these days! We’ve got some theatres with nice seats in my local area but the sound experience, while okay, just doesnt have the spatial separation that I get at home.

OMG! Yes, I had forgotten to mention those miserable seats. No recline, bottomed out cushions. I will have to wait for Oppenheimer retail to enjoy it properly
