For some reason whenever someone posts any news about Pixelfed one of the top comments is usually along the lines of “no dark mode, no use.” Boy do I have good news for those users!

Like the rest of the Fediverse, and unlike corporate media, there are multiple apps you can use! Examples:

This is also useful for users who have qualms about the Pixelfed dev’s more… distasteful? behavior (example I found today) and don’t rock with rewarding it, kind of like how a lot of Lemmy users might block or defederate the flagship .ml instance.

Dansup has had multiple public bullshit tirades, it seems. He went ballistic about a developer recently who did something for Pixelfed, and ranted endlessly in the most egotistical fashion.

It sucks. Pixelfed is a nice addition to the fediverse, but that guy is a dick.

Same here. It’s unfortunate, because it is a nice project. But his attitude sours the whole thing.

I was following him on mastodon for updates, until he went on that ego trip. I had to mute him after that.

It doesn’t seem to have any image editing functionality…?

a good selection of these apps don’t. unsure if that’s an intentional choice or not.

I’ve noticed that. My instance doesn’t provide unlimited storage and I’d much rather crop and resize my pictures before upload. Not having tools for that is a bit of a deal breaker for me.

Of course, I could edit the images separately but it rather limits what I can be bothered to post as a result.

+1 for wanting rudimentary editing tools in client apps. i don’t need filters or anything fancy but cropping and scaling as features would probably help with platform adoption.

I’ve never used dark mode for anything and never will. It’s also funny how people care enough to dislike that I have a different preference, as the downvotes show.

That’s the thing that irks me when people are elitist about dark mode. Sorry I can’t use your edgy dark app with my feeble scrub eyes.

I absolutely love dark mode and find light mode headache inducing but will never understand the elitist attitude beyond a quick joke. Accessibility is good in all forms!

once i pointed out that most modern mobile OSes have a native “smart invert” which can make any app dark mode without messing with images and i got called ableist 😭

I can’t use light mode without inducing a migraine. It’s nice that we’re at a point in history where most apps have at least two accessible themes for different folks.

the downvotes are only because you seem to think shouting out that YOU don’t want a feature in a thread where everybody else wants it is not hypocritical

Your understanding of the meaning of ‘everybody’ is wildly flawed. The comments certainly don’t indicate that everyone wants that. There are 16 comments, of which 2 say they like dark mode and 2 say they like light mode.

Nor is providing a comment in reply to the post, positive or negative, in any way hypocritical.

Nor was I shouting at any point.

All in all, that’s a terrible misunderstanding of what I actually said.

The downvotes are because people are anal over their preference for dark mode, as always.
