Sources name conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt and far-right journalist John Solomon as potential replacements.

When it caught fire a couple years ago they had to pay people to sort thru soggy half burnt pieces of paper trying to find any identifiable markings to rebuild records. It wasn’t archived anywhere except those pieces of paper.

So large parts of it up to 1980s maybe even 90s is just gone already.

Ah, the grand theater of democracy continues its tragicomedy. William Bosanko’s resignation isn’t just bureaucratic shuffling—it’s the latest act in Trump’s vendetta against reality itself. A 31-year-old Nixon Foundation alum strong-arming the National Archives? Perfect. Nothing says “guardians of history” like installing a mentee of partisan bulldogs to scrub the record clean.

Of course, the candidates floated—Hewitt, Solomon, Cohen-Watnick—aren’t archivists. They’re propagandists. This isn’t about preserving history; it’s about rewriting it. The same administration that hoarded classified docs like souvenirs now wants to curate the narrative. Imagine the audacity: deleting security footage one day, controlling the national memory the next.

And let’s not pretend this is unprecedented. Nixon’s ghost is cackling somewhere. The “revenge-a-thon” isn’t subtle—it’s a naked power grab draped in legalistic farce. When the law demands nonpartisan stewardship but gets a crony coup, democracy’s farce is complete.

i prefer to align my chakras and allow the dharmic energy to flow through me

my point is it has no point. it states the obvious and comes to a very loose conclusion about democracy

Are you gonna be part of the socialist party’s leadership, or are you going to be their subject?

Not if it’s not democracy. It’s more like optimistic benevolent aristocracy.

As in, you’re optimistic that the aristocrats will be benevolent.

Agreed, the ones who keep pushing the alternative reality will eventually start a knowledge gap so large that everyone else will just leave them behind. Donald Trump will gut America and diminish its competitiveness.

which as an american will hurt me but I think it’ll give space for other fledgling democracies to fill the role and probably give space to ween off of fossil fuels

Seeing this onslaught, all I can say is that we are in for dark times. And it’s not just here. There’s an authoritarian push in many countries throughout the world right now.
