I’m going to compulsively share my favorite Dr. Seuss fact in hopes that some of you want to share it with others.
His full name was Theodore Seuss Geisel. The correct (Germanic) pronunciation of his middle name is “Soyce.” When he was choosing his pseudonym, he specifically selected Seuss because it rhymes with rejoice.
Say it right. Be that guy. Do it for Dr. Seuss.
Checks out, leaving me flabbergasted and discombobulated.
I learned about it in The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts. Definitely worth the stop if you’re a fan.
Adding that there is a small zoo in the town park that is small but wonderful. It’s also where his dad worked growing up. He’d go there after school while his dad was wrapping up work and draw the animals.
Springfield is pretty rough but has some crazy cool history and some really beautiful parts.
They must have some super fucked up animals, judging by Seuss’s drawings!
Lol, I’m going a long while while back, but I think his parents were also not exactly thinking his drawings were indictive of a future artist. Don’t ask me the quote but his parents basically felt the same lmfao. Cest Le vid said the old folks and all that.
I’ve been. Fun spot.
I’m old and poor and probably I won’t make it to Massachusetts, but please reassure me that the museum makes no mention of the Mike Myers movie The Cat in the Hat.
I only remember seeing the original Cat in the Hat. I agree that movie is better off forgotten.
Weird. I always thought it was like the German word for sweet.
