Made some arduino based controllers, but those were a pain to figure out how to access remotely, so raspberry pi it was, but eventually I needed more horsepower, so debian it was, then ESP-32s were popularized and now I’ve come full circle with a fleet of ESP-32s reporting to a debian server… eventually I’ll get around to understanding some of the hardware interface in the OS a bit more.

All of it by just kind of bumping into problems

Posting for posterity: Given that WLED now allows for layering of effects, I’m going to explore creating a custom effect to change hue/white to match the two strands/channels. Not sure when I’ll get to it but leave the breadcrumb for future folk.

I have two instances running debian on a lenovo think-something-or-other mini pc and a no name mini pc. Both are set for auto-login, and both fire up plex-htpc by default. I use a $10 remote I got off amazon that is “normal” on one side, with qwerty on the back. It also has a button you press to enable/disable a mouse cursor that you tip the remote around to control. Works well enough, and an old wireless mouse/keyboard stays tucked away if I ever need to do any real work on the system.

There were some annoying audio issues with Debian I fixed by nuking/reinstalling, but other than that it works pretty well as long as you know/are willing to learn how to write some scripts to auto-start some things. Plex-HTPC is 95% of what I use, the other 5% is using the browser to launch an owncast page that I stream… my bird-feeder… to for friends and family when they can’t access… my bird-feeder… in their market. It’s worth mentioning plex has DVR options if you’re willing to go that route.

Tl;Dr: Base regular setup of your choice as others are recommending, $10 remote off amazon, some scripting for start-up and some shortcuts on the desktop. I do recommend paying a bit more for a remote where the keyboard is backlit.

Playing with it, that would deffinitley do it! I just have to figure out how to do it channel by channel.

I’m surprised you can’t tweak a baseline or something. Based on how it handles effects its got all the range it needs, its just a calibration thing.

You can absolutely be an alcoholic and not have it interfere with your job or personal life. That’s easily half the people in my AA meetings and how a lot of people get there.

It can depend, also this little snippet doesn’t say if it’s energy or delivery. Some utilities really like expanding delivery because the projects are revenue, and they don’t make much, if any, on the delivery. But in some cases those delivery expansion projects have a long payback time, so they avoid them until they’re critical, and also lose if after building the demand they were serving goes down.

It also varies a ton by state (Texas being the most extreme example). As well as, someone noted below, how the energy purchase goes. In my state there’s an independent not for profit that is not the utility, and not the energy producer, that just coordinates purchase of power from the broader region (across multiple states). They’ll mix whats coming into the grid in the state going “call Ohio and buy XXYY megawatts for ZZ hrs from that coal fire joint”. The control room is cool as hell. They seem pretty ethically clean, but purchasing that power is a bidding process (like, real time), and your bid has to be competitive.

As a yank my favorite thing about breakfast in europe is it has… vegetables. I skip breakfast a lot because it makes me sluggish, but after a trip to Amsterdam for work, I started doing what I had at the small hotel there: some combo of cold cuts, one or two bite sized pastries like in the picture, some sliced tomatoes with a bit of salt, some peppers or green beans, some cheese, and a hard boiled egg. Occasionally some kimchi or saurkraut, but that I never had with breakfast in europe.

My only real gripe about EU breakfast is the coffee. Absolutely delicious but gone to fast. Even if inferior, I need volume. Coffee is my emotional support beverage to get me through the first half of my day. It’s either that or a pitcher of bloody marry’s and I’ve been sober a while now.

Mini discs! They never really took hold in the US but I had one and LOVED it. Rewritible media, but better quality than cassette. Sony made a killer player that only somehow sipped a single AAA battery, which was a big deal for a kid.

Yeah I’m sober a year now due to drinking myself into severe heart failure (ejection fraction of 17%, up to 47% now) and this is correct. If you can enjoy it great, but the second people start making excuses it’s over, it’s just a matter of how long the slide takes.

I destroy those since going sober. I think it’s that carbonation itself has a flavor, and in cheap beer that carbonation was actually the majority of the feel/flavor. Occasionally I’ll feel silly buying so much, but then I remember how much I used to spend on booze without batting an eye and grab another 12 pack for $2.85.
