Manchester United winger Amad will miss the first part of the Premier League season.

The 21-year-old sustained a knee injury during the tour of the United States that is going to keep him out of action.

It is a blow to the youngster’s hopes of making his mark, after being involved in the earlier stages of our pre-season campaign.

Amad is, of course, sidelined for this weekend’s double-header against Lens at Old Trafford and Athletic Club in Dublin, with both games live on MUTV.

The Ivory Coast international scored in the game against Rayo Vallecano in 2022 when we also had back-to-back friendlies on a Saturday and Sunday.

Unfortunately, he has also been ruled out of the first part of the 2023/24 campaign, and we await further details on his estimated recovery date, with the home league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers up first for Erik ten Hag’s Reds on Monday 14 August.

Amad enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Sunderland last term, top scoring in the league with 13 goals and helping the Black Cats to reach the Championship play-offs.

The news follows confirmation that teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo faces a spell out after flying back from the United States with an ankle injury.

We would like to wish Amad a speedy return to action!

“First part” of the season is ambiguous I suppose but I don’t like the sound of it at all. Terrible luck, was really looking forward to seeing him play.

Hopefully he recovers quickly, but also properly, so he can play a real part in the campaign when he’s back.

Unbelievably unlucky. I wonder what exactly first part of the 2023/24 campaign means, could he be out until 2024?
