Any plans to make a game thread similar to r/nfl?

Here’s one for the HoF game, bit late. Fuck the Jets

I don’t care about this game at all. But fuck the Browns. All sports employ a small percentage of fucking awful people. But if Bill in accounting was involved in over 20 lawsuits about sexual assault Bill would be fired. Unless Bill in accounting was the CFO and he delivered 7 quarters in a row of growth then he would be poached by another tech startup and given a huge compensation package.

Yeah sports communities are the main thing lemmy hasn’t replaced reddit for me. Maybe we’ll see more activity when the season starts

I think the problem with sports is that the community is naturally fragmented by team, so while there may be a decent number of NFL fans around, it breaks down to 10-20 per team, and when 90% are lurkers, it is hard to get any discussion going.

We could try to have a league wide game day thread, but I’m not sure that would help - people would want to talk about the game they are watching, which again fragments the conversation.

I just want somewhere to talk shit to strangers about how bad their team is, while vehemently defending my shitty team

You make a very good point I hadn’t considered. Hopefully we can convert some of these lurkers to comment.

Might help breath some life into this community. NFL content is about the only thing I still use reddit for

There is work being done on the bot that does game threads for Reddit to bring it to Lemmy. We’ve got it working for baseball, next up is football.
