LOS FRESNOS — On any other day, one would normally find Abby’s Bakery bustling with patrons eager to pick up their morning pan dulce.Thursday morning, those doors remained locked and the parking lot empty despite owners Leonardo Baez and Nora Alicia Avila-Gruel having been released on bond since Monday and a judge allowing them to return to work.

However, on Monday, protesters held signs denouncing President Donald Trump, who has cracked down on illegal immigration since taking office for a second term in January. The arrest of the two business owners has sent shock waves throughout the community and garnered national attention for its unique circumstance that some say is unprecedented.
