Israeli occupation forces prevent Palestinian civilians from fishing in their own territorial waters. This, despite Israeli claims of disengagement from the occupied Gaza Strip.

Occupied, yes. Because Israel controls the air, sea, and with the Egyptian military regime’s coordination, land, making the Gaza Strip the world’s largest open air prison.

This really is a crime against humanity along with the rest of the blockade.

The victim was shot with rubber coated steel bullets, per the second article. It’s still a crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces.

That or a rubber bullet. Definitely not lethal force.

Obviously that doesn’t make it okay, but that’s a fairly major omission!

Agreed. The blockade is a major humanitarian issue but I wonder why they omitted it.

Because when you’re peacefully fishing in your own territorial waters, whether you’re shot with a rubber coated steel bullet or shot with a beanbag is irrelevant. The crime is you’re being shot at by a foreign occupying force.

It’s actually not irrelevant. If they used live rounds then they’d be murdering someone, or attempting to, on top of the other issue.

Glad to know you’d be ok being shot with a rubber coated steel bullet. “Other issues” be damned, right?

You’re really projecting hard here. It’s rather pathetic.

… according to WAFA? Never heard of them, and their website looks like something from 20 years ago.

I’d take this with a grain of salt.

Wafa is a well known Palestinian news organization and I’ve been following their news reports for decades.

I’m not sure why you’d trust them. This is garbage reporting. Literally the story is based entirely on “sources confirmed”. What sources?

It’s an award-winning Arabic news service that has sometimes poor English translations. That’s why the English website is anemic and it’s English articles are shorter. That’s also sometimes the case with Hebrew news media as well; they neglect their translated news in favor of their primary language.

The Arabic reporting actually went into more detail; the photo in the image is actually the fisherman showing his bullet wound in an interview.

WAFA is probably older than you.

Pursuant to the decision adopted by the Palestinian National Council in its extraordinary session, held in Cairo in April 1972, the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee issued a decision establishing the Palestinian News & Information Agency (WAFA) on June 5, 1972. WAFA was established as an independent body that was structurally, politically and administratively linked to the PLO Executive Committee with a mandate to confront the dominant Israeli propaganda at the time and serve as an independent platform to report events from the official Palestinian perspective without being subject to any trusteeship (guardianship) or subordination.
